SPENCER – The Spencer softball team improved to 6-1 overall and in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division by sweeping Owen-Withee 17-5 and 19-4 in a pair of conference games Tuesday.
Spencer jumped out early in the opener, scoring six runs in the first inning and seven more in the second to take a commanding lead.
Eight different Rockets scored, seven had two or more runs, and seven players had at least one RBI in the opener.
Paige Johnson went 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored, Courtney Schulz had a hit and four RBIs, and Jenna Hagen and Danica Johnson each went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and three runs scored in the victory.
In Game 2, Spencer smashed 16 hits, led by Danica Johnson, who was 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Hagen was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs and Paige Johnson and Krystal Weier each had two hits for the Rockets.
Nicole Bruss earned the win in both games for Spencer. She struck out two in the first game and four in the second.
Spencer plays at Augusta on Thursday and hosts Colby on Friday.
