Neillsville topples Columbus Catholic baseball

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic scored five runs in the second inning to take the lead, but Neillsville rallied with five over the next two innings and beat the Dons 13-6 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Friday at Jack Hackman Field.

The Warriors (3-7, 3-6 Cloverbelt East) scored three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead before Columbus Catholic (1-8 overall and Cloverbelt East) plated five runs to pull ahead.

However, Neillsville came back with two runs in the third to tie it and went ahead for good with a three-run fourth inning. The Warriors added four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Chris Mashin earned the win for Neillsville, striking out five in six innings.

Justin Edwards and Pat Sullivan each had two hits for the Dons, and Sullivan had two RBIs.

Columbus hosts Greenwood on Monday and plays at Owen-Withee on Tuesday.
