Columbus Catholic girls track second, Auburndale third at Pittsville Invitational

PITTSVILLE – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls track and field team finished second and the Auburndale girls took third Thursday at the Pittsville Invitational.

The Auburndale boys took fourth, with Spencer finishing fifth behind first-place Wausau Newman Catholic.

Newman also won the girls team title, with Spencer fifth and Columbus Catholic sixth.

The Columbus girls won four events and Auburndale took first seven times.

Lakisha Sutton led the way for Auburndale. The freshman won three events for the Apaches, taking first in the 100 meters (13.11 seconds), the 200 (26.66) and the long jump (16 feet, 3 inches).

Danica Harrison continued her strong season for Auburndale, winning the 1,600 (5:40.56) and the 3,200 (12;18.07). Emma Steines (32-3.5 in the triple jump) and Kelly Tomfohrde (10-0 in the pole vault) also won titles for Auburndale.

Two of Columbus Catholic’s wins came in relays. The same team of Mariah Heiman, Lindsey Brandt, Abigail Gotz and Kayla Selz won both the 400 relay (52.78) and the 800 relay (1:51.81).

Deanna Kaiser grabbed the Dons’ other title, taking first in the 800 (2:33.28).

The Spencer girls also had three victories. Kyleigh Hebert won the high jump (4-10) and Marcie Hebert won both the discus (114-5) and the shot put (33-10.5).

Spencer’s Josh Olson grabbed the Rockets’ lone win in the boys events, taking first in the triple jump with a leap of 40-9.

Jared Snortheim of Auburndale won the 1,600 (5:21.08) and was second in the 800 (2:16.52). Auburndale’s Aaron Swenson also took second in the 3,200 (11:15.94).

Columbus Catholic’s top finish came in the 3,200 relay. The team of David Cleveland, Travis Weinke, Tyler Derfus and Travis Pischel was runner-up in 8:55.96, three seconds behind Athens.

The Marshfield girls JV team took fourth at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet at Merrill on Thursday.

Mikayla Sebastian won the high jump title for the Tigers.
