Neillsville comes back to down Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball

NEILLSVILLE – Neillsville stormed back from an early deficit to beat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 10-5 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Monday at Neillsville High School.

Columbus (4-14 overall and Cloverbelt East) led 4-2 after scoring a pair of runs in both the first and third innings. Neillsville responded with a pair of runs in the third to tie the game, then pulled ahead with four runs in the fourth and single tallies in the fifth and sixth.

Cody Rendell struck out five and walked one to earn the win for the Warriors (6-12, 6-11 Cloverbelt East).

Bryce DeSmet, Mike Iwanski, Paul Selz and Charlie Mayeux each went 2-for-4 for the Dons, who have completed their regular season. DeSmet, the losing pitcher, hit a home run, and Selz drove in two runs.

Columbus will play at WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal at Port Edwards on Friday.
