WIAA Division 1 state track and field: Marshfield has two move on to finals

LA CROSSE – Marshfield saw two of its athletes qualify for finals in their respective events, but overall, had a rough outing on the first day of the WIAA State Track and Field Championships on Friday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Jeremy Robinson took seventh in the 200-meter preliminaries (22.45 seconds) and Dan Kniech was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles prelims (15.26 seconds) and were the only two Tigers to move on to Saturday’s finals in the Division 1 meet.

Seven other Marshfield entries were eliminated. The top 10 in all of Friday’s preliminaries qualified for Saturday’s finals.

Kniech was 16th in the 300 hurdles (40.87), Keron Howlett was 19th in the 110 hurdles (16.01), Riley Gebelein was 19th in the boys 100 prelims (11.63) and Gabriella Myrie was 23rd in the girls 100 prelims (13.62).

Three Marshfield relay teams also failed to qualify for Saturday’s finals.

The boys 400 and 800 relay teams of Gebelein, Logan Schmitz, Howlett and Robinson finished 11th and 13th, respectively.

The 400 team missed qualifying by just 5/100 of a second.

The girls 800 relay team of Alexa Fritsch, Myrie, Nikki Youngblood and Bisola Omoba took 16th in prelims, finishing in 1:48.24.

Robinson will also compete in the triple jump on Saturday.
