EDGAR – Two-time defending WIAA Division 6 state champion Edgar was as dominant as ever Friday night, knocking off Spencer/Marshfield Columbus Cathoic 42-0 in a nonconference football game to open the 2011 season.
The loss spoiled the debut of new Spencer/Columbus head coach Jason Gorst, who has taken over the reins this season from Greg Oestreich.
Edgar running back Kyle Schueller carried just five times for 194 yards, scoring on runs of 75, 65 and 58 yards. He also caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Kirsch.
The Wildcats gained 404 yards on just 25 offensive plays. Spencer/Columbus was held to 120 yards, including 77 yards rushing on 43 attempts (1.8 yards per carry).
Spencer/Columbus opens Cloverbelt Conference play at Osseo-Fairchild on Aug. 26 before playing its home opener Sept. 2 against Fall Creek at Spencer High School.
