Columbus Catholic girls tennis rips Lakeland, improves to 2-0 in GNC

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls tennis team won all three doubles matches in straight sets and split the four singles matches in a 5-2 win over Lakeland in a Great Northern Conference dual meet Thursday.

The Dons improve to 2-0 in the conference.

“Our doubles teams are starting to really gel and our singles are working to expand their skills,” Columbus coach Janet Orella said. “These two things in particular are helping us to win.”

The No. 1 doubles team of Abby Gotz and Nikki Hertel won 6-3, 6-1; the No. 2 team of Maddy Havican and Rebecca Lamermayer rolled 6-1, 6-0; and Riley Roehl and Danielle Ceron won at No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-1 for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic’s Elizabeth Manlick routed Danielle Mueth 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Scout Inman beat Erin Tichacek at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-3, for the Dons other two victories.

Columbus hosts Medford on Tuesday.
