Columbus Catholic girls tennis team edges Antigo

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic swept the three doubles matches and Elizabeth Manlick cruised at No. 1 singles to lead the Dons to 4-3 win over Antigo.

The Dons remain perfect in the Great Northern Conference with a 4-0 record. Antigo falls to 1-4.

Columbus’ No. 2 team of Riley Roehl and Daniela Ceron won 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.

The No. 3 team of Maddy Havican and Rebecca Lamermayer won a second-set tiebreaker, beating the Antigo team 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

The No. 1 doubles team of Abby Gotz and Nikki Hertel, and Manlick at No. 1 singles, won in straight sets for Columbus.

“Our No. 2 and No. 3 doubles really stepped up to beat opponents who had previously beat them, enabling us to eke out the win,” Columbus coach Janet Orella said.

Columbus hosts Phillips on Thursday.
