OWEN – The Spencer volleyball team started its Cloverbelt Conference East Division season at defending champion Owen-Withee on Thursday night.

Although the Rockets started strong, they couldn’t handle the strong Owen-Withee service game and fell in four games by scores of 20-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-17.

Courtney Schulz led the Rockets with 11 kills, Tara Matter added nine and Aubrie Bissonette had six.

Dani Johnson had 28 digs and two service aces, Alicia Endreas had 15 digs and two aces, Marisa Johnson had a team-high three aces, and Kyleigh Hebert topped Spencer with 32 assists.

“We struggled with serve receive at key times of the match,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “When our passing was on, we kept them on their heels. Most of the credit goes to Owen-Withee. They served hard and attacked all night.”

Spencer will compete at the Auburndale Invitational on Saturday.
