MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls tennis team won six matches in straight sets and defeated Phillips 6-1 in a Great Northern Conference dual meet Thursday.

With the win, the Dons improve to 5-0 in the GNC, while Phillips drops to 0-5.

Columbus Catholic’s Elizabeth Manlick continued her dominance in the early portion of the season, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0, win over Amy Jackson at No. 1 singles.

Scout Inman at No. 2 singles, the No. 2 doubles team of Riley Roehl and Daniela Ceron, and the No. 3 doubles team of Jerra Kumm and Rebecca Lamermayer also won in straight sets, losing only a combined five games.

“This was, obviously, a very strong match for us,” Columbus coach Janet Orella said. “Most of the matches were won decisively, which is sometimes hard to do when the opponents are of such different skill levels. Our girls played their own games without letting their opponent’s style of play get them down.”

Columbus plays at Lakeland on Tuesday.
