MINOCQUA – Marshfield Columbus Catholic swept the three doubles matches and Elizabeth Manlick rolled again at No. 1 singles as the Dons girls tennis team edged Lakeland 4-3 in a Great Northern Conference match Tuesday at Lakeland High School.

The Dons remain undefeated in the GNC standings at 6-0, while Lakeland falls to 1-6.

Manlick whipped Danielle Mueth 6-0, 6-1, to improve to 6-0 in conference matches.

The Dons’ three doubles teams all won in straight sets. The No. 2 team of Riley Roehl and Daniella Ceron was the most dominant, beating Brieanna Schroeder and Jennifer Bauer 6-1, 6-0.

“This match was pivotal for many of our girls,” Columbus coach Janet Orella said. “They played in such a way as to take charge and work through difficulties when they arose. They made changes in their play and still came out with a win.”

Columbus plays at Medford on Thursday before closing out its conference schedule next week with a match at Phillips on Monday, at home against Rhinelander on Sept. 20 and the Great Northern Conference Meet at Lakeland on Sept. 22.
