Columbus Catholic girls tennis beats Medford, improves to 7-0 in GNC

MEDFORD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls tennis team continued his assault on the Great Northern Conference with a 5-2 win over Medford on Thursday at Medford High School.

Columbus improved to 7-0 in GNC dual meets with the win.

Elizabeth Manlick, Scout Inman and Lydia McIntee won at the top three singles spots for the Dons. Manlick and Inman rolled in straight sets, losing a combined three games, while McIntee needed three sets to beat Kate Bernetzke 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

The Dons’ No. 1 doubles team of Abby Gotz and Nikki Hertel, and the No. 2 team of Riley Roehl and Daniella Ceron also won.

“The girls are getting more consistent and confident with every win,” Columbus coach Janet Orella said. “We have greater command of more skills, which helps us to vary our game and throw our opponents off guard.”

Columbus plays at Phillips on Monday and wraps up its GNC regular season schedule Tuesday at home against Rhinelander.
