PHILLIPS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic closed the gap in the Great Northern Conference girls tennis standings with a 6-1 dual meet victories over Medford and Phillips on Monday at Phillips High School.

The Dons (9-0 GNC) closed to within 10 points in the conference points standings (2 points per individual victory) of Rhinelander. The Hodags lead the standings with 98 points and the Dons are second with 88. Columbus hosts Rhinelander in its GNC regular-season finale on Tuesday and will play at the GNC Tournament on Thursday at Lakeland.

To claim the regular-season title, Columbus would have to sweep Rhinelander. A 6-1 win by the Dons would create a tie.

Elizabeth Manlick improved to 9-0 in the Great Northern Conference with a pair of 6-0, 6-0, victories over Paige Bernktove of Medford and Amy Jackson of Phillips.

Scout Inman at No. 2 singles and Lydia McIntee at No. 3 singles, and all three of the Dons’ doubles teams posted two victories on Monday.
