Rhinelander edges Columbus Catholic girls tennis team

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic had a chance to gain ground on first-place Rhinelander heading into the Great Northern Conference Tournament but lost a tight 4-3 match to the Hodags in its regular-season finale Tuesday.

Rhinelander’s win boosts its lead in the conference points standings to 12 (106-94) moving into the GNC Tournament on Thursday at Lakeland.

Rhinelander and Columbus Catholic both end the season with a conference best 9-1 dual meet record.

Columbus’ Elizabeth Manlick wrapped up a perfect 10-0 record in the GNC with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lyssa Messerli at No. 1 singles.

Scout Inman at No. 2 singles and the Dons’ No. 2 doubles team of Riley Roehl and Daniela Ceron both won in straight sets.
