STRATFORD – The Spencer volleyball team lost its opening match but rallied for three wins on Saturday at the Stratford Invitational.

Spencer lost its first match to Mosinee 25-17, 25-20, then turned around to beat Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 25-17, 25-8, Athens 25-22, 21-25, 15-3, and Rib Lake 25-13, 25-19 to finish the day 3-1.

“Going 3-1 on Homecoming Weekend was a solid day,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “We started a little sluggish against a very good Mosinee team, but the girls stuck together and played three nice matches to finish strong.”

Courtney Schulz and Tara Matter again led the Spencer frontline. Schulz had 31 kills and seven blocks, and Matter had 23 kills. Paige Johnson added 13 kills and three blocks.

Setter Kyleigh Hebert had 70 assists and Dani Johnson led the defense with 71 digs.

The Rockets play at Gilman on Tuesday and host Greenwood on Thursday as they try to extend their six-match Cloverbelt Conference East Division win streak.
