Marshfield’s Hayes, Columbus Catholic’s Manlick ousted at WIAA State Girls Tennis Tournament

MADISON – Marshfield senior Megan Hayes and Marshfield Columbus Catholic junior Elizabeth Manlick saw their seasons come to an end Thursday at the WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament.

Hayes lost to Maria Zompolas of Fond du Lac 6-3, 6-3 in the Division 1 singles opening-round matchup on Thursday night. Hayes finishes her season with a 16-11 record. Zompolas (22-7) moves on to a second-round match against Aly Coran (26-1) of Mequon Homestead on Friday.

Manlick, who advanced to the second round a year ago for the Dons, lost her opening round Division 2 singles match to Liz McGrail of Big Foot/Williams Bay 6-3, 6-1. Manlick finishes her 2011 campaign with a 17-4 record.

McGrail (21-3) moves into the second round against the winner of a match between Emily Halvorsen of Manitowoc Roncalli and Courtney Burke of Madison Edgewood.

The tournament continues through Saturday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
