Marshfield wins Tomah boys hockey tournament

TOMAH – The Marshfield boys hockey team opened its season with its second straight win, taking first place at the Tomah Tournament with a 2-1 win over Sauk Prairie in the championship game Saturday.

After both the first and second periods were scoreless, Marshfield opened the scoring when Schuyler Seyfert scored 2:10 into the third period on an assist by Bobby Leggon and Tanner Moon.

Sauk Prairie tied the game at the 10:32 mark in a scrum in front of the net, but the Tigers were unfazed and struck back quickly.

Leggon scored 12 seconds later on assists from Austin Littmann and Nelson Spindler to provide the game winners.

Max Alboreo had 22 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Bo Howard, Alex Krasne and Spindler led Marshfield’s defense.

Marshfield begins a busy week on Tuesday when it hosts Rhinelander. The Tigers play at Tomahawk on Thursday and host Chequamegon on Dec. 3.
