Columbus Catholic boys basketball slips into first place with win over Augusta

MARSHFIELD – Tyler Derfus continued his early-season hot shooting with five 3-pointers and 18 points, helping the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team to a 70-59 win over Augusta in a battle of Cloverbelt Conference East Division leaders Friday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Jared Fleischmann scored a team-high 20 points for the Dons, who improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Cloverbelt East and move into a first-place tie with Greenwood in the conference.

Scott Halvorson had 22 points for the Beavers (5-1, 4-1 Cloverbelt East).

Augusta led 27-25 at halftime before the Dons blew the game open with a 23-10 advantage in the third quarter.

Columbus plays at Owen-Withee next Thursday.
