Spencer boys basketball falls one point short against Greenwood

SPENCER – Spencer outscored Greenwood by five points in the fourth quarter but its comeback attempt came up one point short as the Indians pulled off a 47-46 Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball victory Thursday night at Spencer High School.

Greenwood led 33-27 after three quarters before the Rockets made a strong run, outscoring the Indians 19-14 in the fourth, but came up one point from forcing overtime.

Josh Harlander had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Greenwood to the victory.

Steven Gilboy topped Spencer (4-3, 3-3 Cloverbelt East) with 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Jeremiah Cattanach chipped in 11 points.

Each team to 17 of 45 from the field and made eight free throws. The difference came from the 3-point shooting, where Greenwood (6-1, 6-0 Cloverbelt East) made 5 of 12 and Spencer was 4 of 14.

The Rockets are off until Jan. 3 when they play at Loyal.
