Spencer girls basketball uses fourth-quarter surge to edge Owen-Withee

SPENCER – Spencer outscored Owen-Withee 15-3 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 46-45 Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball victory on Friday night at Spencer High School.

Tara Matter played through a toe injury to score 16 points to lead the Rockets (4-1 overall and Cloverbelt East) past the previously undefeated Blackhawks (7-1, 5-1 Cloverbelt East). Kyleigh Hebert added 13 points, five rebounds and three assists for Spencer.

Owen-Withee held a narrow 21-20 lead at halftime, then opened up a nine-point lead with a 21-13 advantage in the third quarter.

The Rockets responded with a huge fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Bailey Karaba scored 16 points to lead Owen-Withee.

Spencer plays at West Salem on Thursday.
