Altoona slips past Spencer in Cloverbelt Conference boys basketball crossover

SPENCER – Altoona edged Spencer 53-52 in the fifth-place game of the Cloverbelt boys basketball crossovers Thursday night at Spencer High School.

The Rockets led 33-27 at halftime before Altoona rallied. The Railroaders outscored Spencer 16-10 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.

Joe Meyers scored 20 points and Sam Cattanach added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Rockets, who finish their regular season with a 12-10 record.

Steven Gilboy added five points, eight rebounds and nine assists for Spencer.

Taylor Rathke had 15 points and Tyler Santos scored 14 for Altoona (9-13).

Spencer hosts Athens in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday.
