Stratford boys basketball team improves to 17-4 with nonconference win over Whitehall

STRATFORD – The Stratford boys basketball team got back on the winning track with a 57-46 nonconference win over Whitehall on Thursday night at Stratford High School.

The Tigers, coming off a loss to Auburndale that snapped their six-game winning streak, improves to 17-4. Whitehall falls to 8-10.

Derek Austin scored 21 points and Troy Mengel added 19 for Stratford. Austin made 11 of 15 free throws and a pair of 3-pointers, while Mengel was 8 of 13 shooting.

The Tigers led 23-14 at halftime and closed out the game with a 16-11 fourth quarter to pull away.

Stratford will play in the second-place game of the Marawood Conference crossovers on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Abbotsford against the Falcons. Auburndale plays Prentice in the first-place game at 3 p.m.
