Auburndale girls basketball team surges past Stratford in second half of Marawood South win

AUBURNDALE – Ten different Auburndale players scored as the Apaches rolled past Stratford 50-29 in the Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball finale for both teams Thursday night at Auburndale High School.

The Apaches led by seven at halftime before blowing the game open in the second half, outscoring Stratford 32-18.

Nicole Nikolay led the balanced scoring attack for Auburndale with 11 points, making 5 of 6 free throws. Sam Karl and Emma Steines each added seven points.

Hannah Schmitt scored 10 points to lead Stratford, which made just 10 of 32 shots from the field and 11 of 18 free throws in the loss.

Stratford (11-10, 5-9 Marawood South) and Auburndale (14-7, 10-4 Marawood South) will host Marawood Conference North-South crossovers next Thursday.

Stratford will host Phillips in the fifth-place game, while Auburndale is at home against Chequamegon in the third-place game.
