Columbus boys clinch Cloverbelt championship

MARSHFIELD – David Green led three players in double figures with 18 points as the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team crushed Greenwood 70-49 on Friday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The win, combined with Spencer’s 51-41 loss to Neillsville, gives Columbus the Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship. The Dons (17-3, 14-1 Cloverbelt East) wrap up their conference schedule Monday at Loyal. Greenwood falls to 3-17, 2-13 in the Cloverbelt East.

Travis Pischel added 13 points and Tyler Mancl chipped in with 12 for the Dons.

Columbus built a 39-31 lead by halftime, then blew out the Indians with a 15-6 third-quarter advantage.

Josh Harlander led Greenwood with 15 points.

Columbus will finish its regular season next Saturday in the Cloverbelt crossover first-place game against West Division champ Fall Creek at 7:30 p.m. at Neillsville High School.
