Assumption sweeps doubleheader from Columbus Catholic baseball

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team dropped to 1-4 on the season after being swept by Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 11-3 and 10-7 in a nonconference doubleheader Saturday.

Assumption used a six-run first inning in Game 1 and scored multiple runs in four straight innings of the second game to win the twinbill.

Columbus was held to six hits in the first game, two coming from Mike Iwanski.

Assumption (5-0) led 8-0 after 3½ innings of Game 2 before Columbus got back in it and cut the Royals’ lead to 10-5 after five. The Dons added a pair of runs in the seventh but were unable to get any closer.

Iwanski and Charlie Mayeux each had two hits in the second game.

The Dons host undefeated Greenwood on Tuesday.
