Spencer softball walks to win over Colby

COLBY – Spencer scored 10 runs in the first inning and poured it on from there, whipping Colby 21-0 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game Friday at Colby High School.

The Rockets improve to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Cloverbelt East with the win. Colby falls to 1-2 and 1-1 in conference.

The Rockets only had nine hits as they walked 22 times in the victory.

Krystal Weier went 3-for-4 with a bases-loaded triple, three runs scored and five RBIs for Spencer. Dani Johnson walked five times and scored three times, and Paige Johnson had four walks, a single and scored twice. They each had three RBIs, as did Marisa Johnson.

Courtney Schulz added a two-run inside-the-park home run in the first inning explosion.

Ten different Spencer players scored at least a run.

Tynae Phillips and Heidi Guenther combined on the three-hit shutout for Spencer.

“I was really happy with how our pitchers improved on locating the ball,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “We played an error-free game, which is a nice improvement for us.”

Spencer hosts Augusta on Monday.
