MERRILL – Sophomore Darian Molter scored four goals and had an assist to break the Marshfield girls soccer program’s career scoring mark and lead the Tigers to an 8-0 whitewashing of Merrill on Thursday.

Molter broke Vanessa Kowalski’s career mark of 102 points. Molter now has 105 points (two points for a goal, one for an assist) just 14 games into her sophomore season.

Molter set the new record on a header off a corner kick by Emily Goeppinger (two assists).

Emily Wolfe added three goals, giving her five in the last two games, and Mardie Shanahan scored to provide the final tally.

Shanahan, Maddie Smith and Walker Guzowski also added assists, and Jala Zahn saved both of Merrill’s shots on goal for Marshfield.

“We continue to play at a high level as we wind to the finish of the season – and at no better time,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Our passing and team play has really clicked.”

Marshfield outshot Merrill 30-2.

Leah Cherney, Emily Haws, Megan Marotz, Mary Wolff, Dani Sopiarz, and Courtney Thumann led the charge on defense for Marshfield, which pitched its second straight shutout.

Marshfield (9-4-1, 5-4 Wisconsin Valley Conference) will play at the Waupaca Tournament on Saturday.
