MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic scored 12 runs in the third inning and still had to rally and ended up topping Spencer 18-14 in a wild Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.

Spencer rolled out to an 8-0 lead before the Dons scored 12 times in the bottom of the third to take the lead.

The Rockets plugged away and took a 14-13 lead after scoring twice in the sixth, but Columbus rallied again with five runs in the bottom of the frame and held Spencer scoreless in the seventh to grab the win.

Brandon Nikolai went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, and Mike Iwanski and Pat Sullivan each went 2-for-5 with three RBIs to lead the Dons (6-11, 6-9 Cloverbelt East), who had 17 hits in all.

Iwanski earned the win in relief of Kienan McIntee (six strikeouts, three walks).

Alex Brostowitz had a double and triple for Spencer (11-7, 11-5 Cloverbelt East).

Columbus hosts Augusta on Thursday and Granton on Friday at Jack Hackman Field. Both games start at 5 p.m.

Spencer plays at home against first-place Greenwood on Friday.
