Marshfield gains 22 spots in sectionals at WIAA Division 1 track regional at D.C. Everest

WESTON – The Marshfield track and field team will be well represented at Thursday’s sectional in Rice Lake.

The Tigers boys qualified in 14 events and the girls in eight by placing in the top four at the WIAA Division 1 D.C. Everest Regional on Monday at Stiehm Stadium.

Jeremy Robinson led the way for the Marshfield boys, which finished second to D.C. Everest in the team standings.

Robinson won the 100 meters in 11.15 seconds and the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 10 inches, was second in the 200 (22.25) and fourth in the long jump (20-4).

Keiron Howlett qualified in three events for Marshfield, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 15.06 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 40.26 seconds. He also placed third in long jump (21-5.25).

Marshfield had six other third-place finishes and one fourth-place finish to earn a total of 14 sectional spots.

Individually taking third for Marshfield were: Jacob Bauer in the high jump (6-0), Trevor Peterson in the shot put (45-7.5), Brad Krueger in the 110-meter hurdles (16.50), Riley Gebelein in the 100 (11.21) and Nolan Redetzke in the 3,200 (10:05.59). The 800 relay team of Jeff Allison, Olin Boson, Gebelein and Howlett finished third in 1:33.26.

Matt DeGrand took fourth in the 400 (54.25).

The Marshfield girls had four individuals and all four relay teams qualify for sectionals as it placed third in the team standings behind Wausau West at D.C. Everest.

Martha Kupfer grabbed the lone regional title for the Tigers, winning the 200 meters in 27.24 seconds.

Bisola Omoba took second in the 100 (13.14), Kate Schumitsch took third in the pole vault with a school record vault of 10 feet, and Yasmeena Ougayour was fourth in the discus (112-0).

Omoba, Kupfer, Miranda Snortheim and Nikki Youngblood took second in the 800 relay (1:49.53) and fourth in the 400 relay (52.55). The 1,600 relay team of Sara Fuller, Ashley Holubets, Snortheim and Amanda Cousins was fourth in 4:19.04, and the 3,200 relay team of Melissa Brix, Holubets, Madie Koehn and Fuller also was fourth in 10:52.62.

The top three finishers in each event at Thursday’s sectional at Rice Lake move on to the WIAA State Track & Field Championships in La Crosse on June 1-2.
