MARSHFIELD – Eau Claire Memorial swept all seven flights and claimed the team title at the WIAA Division 1 boys tennis sectional at Boson Courts on Wednesday.

Memorial won all seven individual sectional titles and moves on to the WIAA State Team Boys Tennis Tournament in Madison on June 8-9.

Marshfield, which had all seven of its players qualify for sectionals, saw its season come to an end as it won only three matches on Wednesday. The Tigers ended up third in the team standings behind Memorial and Hudson.

Marshfield’s Jack Haessly beat Jack Schulte of Hudson in the No. 3 singles semifinals before losing to Kyle Wogahn of Eau Claire Memorial in the finals and the Tigers’ senior finishes his season with a 15-6 record.

The Tigers’ No. 3 doubles team of Tanner Hayes and Zach Ott also placed second ending their season at 12-1. The duo of juniors beat Jake Schreffler and Sam Duchow of Hudson in the semifinals but lost to Colin Loshaw and Austin Auleta of Memorial (22-1) in the finals, suffering their first loss of the season.

Jacob Limmex picked up the other win for Marshfield. Limmex, a freshman, lost his semifinal match at No. 4 singles before beating Cameron Kissinger of D.C. Everest in the third-place match to wrap up his first varsity season with a 10-3 record.

The top four at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and the winners at No. 2 singles and doubles qualify for the WIAA State Boys Tennis Individual Tournament on May 31-June 2 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

Sixteen extra qualifiers at No. 1 singles and doubles will be added to the field and likely will be announced Thursday.
