Marshfield Chaparrals whip Norwalk Knights in home opener

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals opened the home portion of its schedule with a bang, plating 19 runs in a 19-4 rout of Norwalk on Friday night at Jack Hackman Field.

John Safford went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs, Chuck Brehm added three hits and three runs, and Sam Arnott drove in a pair of runs with a double for the Chaparrals (2-0).

Marshfield scored eight runs in the middle three innings to pull way, the finished it off with a six-run sixth inning.

Five Chaps pitcher combined to allow just seven hits and three walks to Norwalk.

Marshfield plays road games at Coon Valley (noon) and Sparta (4 p.m.) on Monday, then open a eight-game home stand Wednesday night against Everest.
