The Marshfield Chaparrals played a different kind of a doubleheader on Memorial Day, and it ended with a split.

The Chaparrals traveled to Coon Valley and won 4-1, then went on a short trip to Sparta and lost 8-7 to see their early-season win streak end at three.

In the win over Chaseburg-Coon Valley, the Chaps scored a run in the first inning and held that lead until the Blues tied it with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Marshfield quickly responded with three runs in the top of the eighth and pitcher Brad Stroik did the rest.

Stroik struck out seven, scattered seven hits and did not walk a batter in the complete-game victory for the Chaparrals.

Bobby Gregorich went 3-for-4 and scored a run for Marshfield.

In the nightcap, Marshfield had a five-run fifth to take a 6-4 lead but Sparta ripped off three runs in the eighth and held the Chaparrals scoreless in the ninth.

Gregorich scored two of Marshfield’s seven run in the loss.

Marshfield (3-1) now plays its next eight games at home, with the first coming Wednesday against Everest. The Chaparrals also host Tilden on Friday, Spooner on Saturday and Coon Valley on Sunday. You can view the entire season schedule by clicking here.
