Eau Claire North knocks off Marshfield boys soccer

MARSHFIELD – Eau Claire North knocked off the Marshfield boys soccer team 4-3 in the opening game of the Marshfield Challenge on Friday at Griese Park.

North jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Eli Oba scored just before halftime, however the Tigers couldn’t come all the way back.

North led 3-1 at halftime.

Matt McCann scored on an assist from Austin Gilbert at the 60:24 mark, only to see North respond with a goal 21 seconds later.

McCann scored again for the Tigers 52 seconds after that, but the Tigers couldn’t tie it over the final 9 minutes.

Marshfield falls to 5-11-1 after suffering its third straight loss.

The tournament continues Saturday with games at Griese Park starting at 9 a.m. with Wausau East against Eau Claire North and New Richmond against Marshfield.

River Falls plays Rhinelander and New Richmond takes on Wausau East at 11:30 a.m., and the tournament concludes with Marshfield playing River Falls and Eau Claire North taking on Rhinelander at 2 p.m.
