Marshfield boys soccer swept at home invitational

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys soccer team lost a pair of games Saturday to finish 0-3 at the Marshfield Challenge Invitational at Griese Park.

Marshfield dropped a 5-2 decision to River Falls and suffered a 4-2 loss to Menomonie.

Wausau East beat River Falls 1-0 on Friday and knocked off Menomonie 3-2 and Eau Claire North 4-0 to win the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record.

River Falls scored four first-half goals in the win over Marshfield and led 4-1 at the break.

Logan Arndt scored on an assist from Matt McCann for the Tigers’ first goal, and Thomas Kruger added an unassisted goal late in the second half for Marshfield.

Mathias Holm had five saves for the Tigers.

Ian Scammel netted a hat trick for Menomonie in its win over the Tigers.

Chris Pahl had an early goal for Marshfield to tie the game at 1-1, but the Mustangs pulled ahead 3-1.

McCann scored off an assist by Quinn VanOudenhoven at the 65:29 mark to cut Menomonie’s lead to 3-2, but Scammel finished off his hat trick – and the scoring – with a goal with 8:59 left.

Marshfield hosts Merrill at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Griese Park.
