STEVENS POINT – Marshfield junior Nolan Redetzke is heading to the state cross country meet.

Redetzke finished fifth in the boys race and earned one of five individual state berths up for grabs at the WIAA Division 1 Sectional at Standing Rock Park on Saturday morning.

The top two teams and top five finishers in both the boys and girls races advance to next Saturday’s WIAA State Cross Country Championships at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Redetzke finished fifth in 16:29.28, about 31 seconds behind winner Michael Larson of Stevens Point.

Stevens Point won the boys title, with Wausau East taking second. All five of Point’s runners finished in the top seven. Marshfield was fifth.

The Marshfield girls also finished fifth, with junior Rebecca Voss just missing out on a trip to the state meet.

Voss finished 10th in 15:47.01, 14 seconds behind sixth-place Teagan Monfils of Shawano, who grabbed the fifth and final individual qualifying spot.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the kids who all ran very well today with a number of them getting their best time of the year on this difficult course (Alex
Gunn, Adrian Kaiser, Ethan Voss, Rebecca Voss and Madie Koehn),” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “The kids really raced well today and our team scores reflect that as both teams placed fifth out of 12 Division 1 teams.”

Wausau East sophomore Kennidi Knoblock won the girls race in 15:00.92, easily outdistancing Autum Shurbert-Het of Stevens Point, who was 14 seconds behind.

Stevens Point also won the girls sectional team title, with Wausau West taking second and also earning a state berth.
