Columbus Catholic girls basketball team edges Pittsville at Cranberry Classic

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team shutout Pittsville in the first quarter and went on to a 34-28 nonconference win Saturday at the Cranberry Classic at Assumption High School.

Columbus led 6-0 after the first quarter, used a 13-10 third quarter to open up a 28-19 lead and held on from there.

Liz Manlick scored 17 points and Kayla Selz had eight for the Dons, who improve to 2-1.

Tasha Vogel led Pittsville with 12 points.

Columbus also won the JV game 44-11. Abby Baierl had 10 points and Alexandria Hutchinson had eight for the Dons.

Columbus hosts Spencer in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
