Auburndale crushes Waupaca to win boys basketball tournament

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale boys basketball team whipped Waupaca 64-43 to capture the championship game of the Auburndale Boys Basketball Tournament on Saturday night at Auburndale High School.

Austin Hawkins, who scored 29 points in a win over Mosinee on Friday, had 28 points in the win over Waupaca. Hawkins made 10 of 16 shots from the field and 8 of 13 from the free-throw line for the Apaches.

Blake Anderson added 14 points and eight rebounds, making 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and Isaac Castellano had eight points and five assists for Auburndale. The Apaches remain undefeated at 9-0. Waupaca falls to 3-8.

Auburndale charged out to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Comets by 13 in the second half to cruise to the victory.

The Apaches play at Stratford on Friday.
