MARSHFIELD – Sophomore Caitlin Michaelis dominated Rhinelander, scoring 35 points and setting a new school record with nine 3-pointers, leading the Marshfield girls basketball team to a 77-47 win over Rhinelander in a nonconference game Tuesday night at Marshfield High School.

The 77 points were the second-most scored by the Tigers this season – they had 79 in an overtime loss to Waunakee on Jan. 5. Marshfield ends a three-game losing streak with the victory.

Michaelis made 13 of 19 shots overall and 9 of 13 from 3-point range. She breaks Taylor Varsho’s record of seven 3-pointers in a game that she set in the 2009-10 season and equaled it again last season. The 35 points she scored is just one point shy of the school record of 36 set by Sara Craig during the 1987-88 season.

Darian Molter added 12 points for Marshfield.

The Tigers improve to 10-8, while Rhinelander falls to 1-15.

Marshfield hosts Wausau East on Friday as it looks to end a three-game Wisconsin Valley Conference losing streak.
