WESTON – D.C. Everest scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and that was more than enough as the Evergreens blasted Marshfield 10-0 in a WIAA Division 1 softball regional semifinal Tuesday at D.C. Everest High School.

Brooke Gajewski and Becky Zamzow combined on the six-inning, one-hit shutout for Everest (14-7). They combined for 11 strikeout and did not walk a batter.

Caitlin Kozik took the loss for Marshfield, walking five.

Marshfield ends its tough season with a 1-22 record.

“We struggled with the weather and sort of got off to a slow start,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “The season came fast and went fast. We didn’t get much of an opportunity to work on things (only two outdoor practices during the season) and had to kind of learn things on the fly.

“The girls kept working hard and trying to do the things needed to try to win ballgames. Now we just have to have a good offseason and improve before next year.”

D.C. Everest hosts Merrill in a regional final on Thursday. Merrill defeated Wausau West 3-2 on Tuesday.
