Pitching dominates as Stratford baseball sweep games against Edgar, Chequamegon

STRATFORD – The Stratford baseball team extended its winning streak to seven, picking up wins over Edgar and Chequamegon on Friday at the Tiger Stadium Baseball Field.

The Tigers blanked Edgar 5-0 in a Marawood Conference South Division contest that was a make-up game from Thursday, then defeated Chequamegon 4-1 in the originally-scheduled nonconference matchup.

Henry Zaleski tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout in the opener for Stratford, which improves to 5-1 in the Marawood South.

Vance Kielman had an RBI double and Riley Spindler scored twice in the win for Stratford.

Drew Gage picked up the win against Chequamegon, going a strong four innings as three relievers helped finish off the victory.

Riley Kroening and Zaleski both had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers (11-3 overall).

Stratford will play at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Monday and host the Royals on Thursday, needing to win both games to forge a tie with Marathon for the Marawood South championship.
