MARSHFIELD – Columbus Catholic senior pitcher Emmitt Konieczny fired a two-hit shutout, finishing with 13 strikeouts, as the Dons blanked Loyal 4-0 in a pivotal Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Friday at Safford Field.

Konieczny hit on all cylinders, giving up just a pair of singles and two walks as he went the distance for the Dons, who improve to 10-1 overall and remain perfect at 6-0 in the Cloverbelt East.

Columbus opens up a 1½-game lead over Loyal (8-3, 4-1 Cloverbelt East) in the conference standings.

Carter Sommer had a two-run double in the first inning and knocked home another run in the third on a groundout to pace the Dons offensively.

Columbus Catholic will play a nonconference game at Auburndale on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
