Marshfield graduates Jena Weigel and Kelsey Weigel compete at NCAA Division III outdoor track meet

LA CROSSE – Marshfield High School graduate Jena Weigel earned All-America honors by finishing eighth in the Heptathlon at 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which was held Thursday-Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Weigel, a UW-La Crosse senior, accumulated 4,703 points, breaking the school record of 4,629 points set by Shelly Rud in 1993. This is her second All-America honor after also placing third in the pentathlon at 2013 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

In the Heptathlon events, Weigel won the shot put (39 feet, 8¾ inches) and was third in the long jump (17-9½)

Jena’s sister, Kelsey Weigel, a junior at UW-Eau Claire, placed 13th in the Heptathlon with 4,510 points.

UW-La Crosse finished fifth in the women’s team standings. Wartburg College won the women’s team title and La Crosse was the men’s team champion.
