Plover stops Marshfield Chaparrals in season opener

PLOVER – The Marshfield Chaparrals were held to three hits and suffered a 2-1 loss to the Plover Pterodactyls in their season opener Friday at Memorial Park.

Marshfield scored its only run in the top of the first as Eric Pritzl scored on a RBI by Austin Littmann.

Plover (3-0) responded with two in the bottom of the inning and that was all of the scoring in the game.

Ryan Williams suffered the loss for the Chaparrals, giving up six hits and five walks in seven innings. He struck out seven.

Justin Masterson and Eric Fritz combined for four perfect innings of relief to save the win for Bill Held.

Marshfield hosts Plover on Wednesday in its home opener. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field. The game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
