Marshfield Chaparrals overcome 8-run deficit to top Abbotsford Merchants

MARSHFIELD – Lucius Messerschmidt had four hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Marshfield Chaparrals to a 12-9 win over the Abbotsford Merchants in amateur baseball action Monday night at Jack Hackman Field.

Bobby Gregorich had three hits and two RBIs, and Dylan McHugh added two hits and three RBIs for the Chaps, who improve to 1-1 this season.

Abbotsford led 8-0 after 3½ innings before Marshfield came storming back.

The Chaps scored four runs in the fourth, six runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Neither team scored over the final three innings.

Eric Pritzl picked up the victory for the Chaparrals, allowing two runs (one earned) in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Sam Schwanebeck tossed four perfect innings, striking out seven, to earn the save.

Marshfield hosts Eau Claire on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Hackman Field.
