WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Junior American Legion baseball team opened its season with a split of a doubleheader with Wisconsin Rapids on Monday.

The game was scheduled late after the Blue Demons twinbill scheduled for Tuesday at home against Stevens Point was postponed because of the Stevens Point High School team making the WIAA state tournament.

Marshfield won the first game of the doubleheader 6-2 behind a complete-game effort from pitcher Jeremy Binder.

Nate Barofka, Trevor Schwecke and Scott Berg each had two hits for the Blue Demons.

Wisconsin Rapids came back to win Game 2, 18-10. Jeremy Brost had a double and single, and Schwecke added two hits for Marshfield in the loss.

Marshfield is scheduled to play a doubleheader at home against Merrill on Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m.
