AUBURNDALE – Matt Nikolay and Blake Anderson each scored 12 points, and Josh VanShoick added 11 to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Auburndale boys basketball team in a 60-30 win over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in a Marawood Conference South Division matchup Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.
Auburndale shot 49 percent (27 of 55) overall and was 22 of 37 from 2-point range in the victory, improving to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Marawood South. Assumption drops to 3-3 and 2-2 in the conference.
Auburndale led 10-7 after one quarter before pushing its lead to 24-13 by halftime and 45-22 at the end of the third.
Eight Apaches scored in the win and Auburndale had 22 assists on 27 made baskets. Point guard Isaac Castellano had eight assists and five steals for the Apaches.
Nathaniel Clark and Chase Lamp each scored nine points for the Royals, who were just 13 of 35 shooting.
Auburndale hosts Wausau Newman Catholic on Friday.
