Spencer baseball loses to Greenwood, shuts out Columbus Catholic in pair of make-up games

SPENCER – The Spencer baseball team played a split Cloverbelt Conference East Division doubleheader Saturday, splitting the pair at Spencer High School.

Both games were make-up games from rainouts earlier in the season.

Greenwood defeated Spencer 4-3 and the Rockets rebounded to shutout Marshfield Columbus Catholic 9-0.

Logan Johnson threw a complete game, striking out six, in Greenwood’s victory.

Mitch Susa suffered the loss, striking out eight for the Rockets. Joe Meyers was 2-for-2 for Spencer, which suffered its first loss of the season.

Spencer’s Calvin Lenz struck out 13 to earn the win over Columbus Catholic and allowed just three hits in six innings.

Alex Brostowitz was 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs in the victory for the Rockets (6-1, 5-1 Cloverbelt East).

Columbus Catholic is now 0-3 overall and in the conference.
