Spencer softball splits two at home invitational

SPENCER – The Spencer softball team split a pair of games at its home Spencer Invitational on Saturday.

Spencer lost to Chippewa Falls McDonell 18-5 and rallied to defeat Auburndale 13-1. The Rockets are now 6-2 overall, while Auburndale drops 0-8 after a pair of losses. The Apaches lost to McDonell 13-1.

Spencer led 5-0 after two innings, but McDonell scored eight runs in the top of the fourth and added six in the sixth to win going away.

Sydney Schemeanauer and April Peters each had three RBIs for McDonell.

Brooke Kettleborough and Tynae Phillips both had two hits for the Rockets.

Macie Weber earned the win over Auburndale for the Rockets, striking out six and walking one in five innings.

Phillips went 4-for-4 with a double and five RBIs, and Courtney Buss, Johnson and Katie Fleischman each had two hits for Spencer.

Auburndale was held to just three hits. Camille Swart knocked in the only run for the Apaches.

Statistics from Auburndale’s game against McDonell were not available.

Auburndale hosts Marathon on Monday, while Spencer is off until Thursday when it is at home for a doubleheader against Owen-Withee.
