WAUSAU – The Marshfield boys soccer game had its three-game winning streak snapped, falling 3-1 at Wausau East on Tuesday.
Marshfield is now 8-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Wausau East improves to 6-4-4 and 3-2-4 in the conference.
Olajuwan Sitte scored 4:06 into the game to put the Lumberjacks up early, but Marshfield quickly responded. Alex Sainterme scored off an assist from Ryan Hayes at the 12:39 mark to tie the game.
However, Marshfield wouldn’t get another shot past Wausau East goalkeeper Adam Peterson (six saves).
Luke Salzer scored 17:49 into the second half and Sitte added another goal 2:40 later to finish off the scoring for East.
Trevyn Tham had eight saves for the Tigers.
“This was one of the few games this year where we got outplayed for a long period of time,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “They did outplay us in the second half. They play a nice game – strong midfield, good 1-2 passing and played a deep sweeper that got the better of us.”
Marshfield hosts Merrill at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Griese Park.
