Auburndale football crushes Pittsville, clinches WIAA playoff berth

PITTSVILLE – Auburndale scored five unanswered touchdowns over the final three quarters to whip Pittsville 43-8 in a Marawood Conference football game Friday night at Pittsville High School.

Pittsville led 8-7 after the first quarter, but the Apaches controlled the game the rest of the way to improve to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the Marawood Conference.

Auburndale clinches a berth in the WIAA playoffs for the second-straight season with the victory.

Pittsville is now 2-5, 1-5 in the Marawood.

Matt Nikolay led the way for Auburndale with 149 yards, including an 87-yard touchdown run; Wyatt Weiler added 113 yards and two touchdowns; and Jake Lewis had 105 yards and a score for the Apaches.

Paul Willfahrt threw a touchdown pass and ran for another for Auburndale.

Weiler scored on runs of 42 and 33 yards in the second quarter to put the Apaches up 21-8 at the break.

Auburndale continued the onslaught in the third quarter with three touchdown runs.

Auburndale plays at Stratford (4-3, 3-2 Marawood) next Friday.
